A Lamb of God: Disciple of Christ

Updated: Nov 24, 2022

So, Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. Just as the Father has sent me, I also send you. After he said this, he breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit."
John 20:21-22

I had an epiphany the other day. As a follower of Jesus Christ/The Lamb of God, I am on a path of becoming a Lamb of God. Throughout the New Testament scriptures, sheep are used to symbolize God's people. If we choose to follow Christ - we are destined to become a Lamb of God just like Jesus. He has inherited all power and authority through his identity as The Lamb of God (Matt 28:18; John 5:22). What an incredible inheritance we have if we choose the path of a Lamb of God as well. Let's go over the evidence in today's post.

Jesus: The Lamb of God

...all of whom were singing in a loud voice: "Worthy is the lamb who was killed to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and praise!"
Revelation 5:12

I believe Jesus is the archetype of God's will for humanity. In Revelation 5 a lamb is used as a symbol for Jesus who died in order to receive the seven spirits of God (power, wealth, wisdom, might, honor, glory and praise). In John chapter 20 Jesus appears to his disciples (after his death and resurrection) and breathes on them so they receive the seven spirits of God, aka the Holy Spirit. It seems to me that God sent his son to become the salvation of humanity and to gift us with the Spirit so we can conquer the spirit of the world just as Jesus has.

Becoming a Lamb of God

I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering but take courage - I have conquered the world.
John 16:33

I believe becoming a Lamb of God is choosing to have faith in Jesus and his teachings. It reminds me of a martial art form that we practice to progress from a white belt up to a black belt so to speak. As we progress, we are able to benefit others on the same path as us. The Lamb of God has already conquered the spirit of the world. The spirit of the world is a negative energy that is the opposite of the energy/spirit of God. If God's energy is wisdom, the world's energy is delusion. If God's energy is praise, the world's energy is slander. We will become a Lamb of God and overcome the world by abiding in God's energy and learning from his word, the Bible.

Being a Lamb of God

My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
John 10:27

In John 10 Jesus explains that he knows his sheep and they follow him. To know is to experience. If I know someone that means I've spent time and energy with them. Jesus knows his sheep. He experiences our life with us if we allow him to. Being a Lamb of God is about experiencing God on a regular basis, taking the time to focus on the present moment where God abides with us.

In Matthew 10:16 Jesus says, "I am sending you out like sheep surrounded by wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.". I believe to be wise is to read the scriptures while communing with the Spirit. This means asking the Spirit questions and listening in your heart for answers. I have previous blog posts explaining how to do this so I won't go further into it here.

Conclusion

The Lamb of God has opened the door to paradise by willingly giving up his life for humanity. All of us who choose to follow the path of The Lamb have inherited the same power and authority as The Lamb. I believe I am A Lamb of God on the same spiritual walk and destiny as The Lamb of God. This incredible inheritance is explained in John 14:12, "I tell you the solemn truth, the person who believes in me will perform the miraculous deeds that I am doing, and will perform greater deeds than these, because I am going to the Father."

Powerful and glorious days are in store for us as we walk the path of The Lamb. Cheers friends.
