Quick Read: She did what she could

But Jesus replied, "Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me?... She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time."
Mark 14:6, 8

Recently I felt that I should give to a charity, but I procrastinated. What made me procrastinate was my mind kept obsessing that I should be donating a huge amount of money every month. It was discouraging, so instead of just doing what I could, I would worry about my financial priorities and end up not donating anything. Eventually I read the Gospel of Mark and came across this story:

In Mark 14 Jesus was at a friend's house in the town of Bethany. While he was eating, a woman came in with an expensive bottle of perfume and anointed Jesus with it. She was honoring the Messiah with what she had, but some of the people at the table criticized her harshly, "Why did you do that?" They scolded. "That perfume was worth a year's wages! It could've been sold and the money given to the poor!". Jesus told them to back off and that she had done what she could. He basically told them, "If you want the poor to be blessed, then go ahead and do it yourself. You can do your part.".

I love what Jesus said, "She has done what she could.". What I get from that statement is that God doesn't expect us to over burden ourselves, running around trying to save the world. Let's not listen to criticism from our minds that can discourage us from following our hearts.

If we all do our small part in the sphere of our influence, big changes can happen for the better. Cheers friends.
